Counselling for LGBTQ

Needless to mention, the discrimination and stigma LGBTQ individuals often face could be a serious hurdle to their emotional and psychological well-being.

Research states that LGBTQ individuals resort to mental health treatment at a much higher rate compared to their non-LGBTQ counterparts.  This is mainly owing to the stigma and discrimination these individuals face on a regular basis, from their family members, society, peers and co-workers.

This discrimination generally contributes to higher rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues seen specifically amongst LGBTQ. Individuals in the LGBTQ community are also more likely to have problems with substance abuse, self-harm behaviors, and/or suicidal thoughts. Hence, it is not surprising that these people seek mental health services at a higher rate.

Why counselling is required for LGBTQ individuals?

In an LGBTQ counseling session online, they will get to speak privately and confidentially with a certified therapist who is familiar with their problems. They can talk about any concerns they have, whether it is related to gender identity/sexual orientation or not.

LGBTQ counseling helps explore gender identity or expression; explore one’s sexual orientation; identifying and managing anxiety, depression, or gender dysphoria; and dealing with bullying or discrimination. A LGBTQ counselor can also assist with concerns including relationship issues, parenting matters, sexual problems, and addiction.
